Conrad Smith first appears on the 1870 Balto. Census age 3 living with father Ernest age 43, mother Elizabeth age 36, sister Mary age 14, sister Elizabeth age 12, brother Andrew age 4, brother John age 1 and sister Margaret age 10 mos.

1900 census does not mention his name but does list wife Sophie Smith as head of household at 1203 N. Washington St., Balto., Md. with two children of his own. Marie Smith age 6 and Samuel age 1. Also two stepchildren. David Raidy and Mamie Raidy

1905 Balto. City Directory has him living at 944 N. Duncl Alley. Occupation Musician.

1910 census does not mention his name but does list wife Sophie Smith as head of household at 305 E. West St., Balto., Md.
with four children of his own. Marie Smith age 16, Samuel age 11, Elmer age 8 and Frank age 3. David Raidy, daughter in law Martha and Their two children Myrtle & Marion.

1916 Balto. City Directory home address as 102 E. Hamburg St., Balto., Md. . Wife Sophie. Occupation Musician.

1922 Balto. City Directory home address as 1520 Covington St., Balto, Md.. Music Teacher.

He retired from the Navy January 9, 1930 as a Band Master. He lived at 2058 E Hoffman St., Balto., Md.. He was 5' 4 and 7/8 " tall. Had blue eyes, brown hair and was dark complected.

Sophie is listed on the 1870 census with her parents Martin & Amelia Hinkle. She is 5 years old and has 2 sisters and
3 brothers.
Sophie Smith was on the 1900 Census Her family lived at 1203 . Washington Ave. , Baltimore, Md. She had been married before to a Raidy and had two living children by him. She also had two other living children by Conrad Smith listed. She had two other children which were deceased. Both of her parents were born in Germany. Her occupation was washwoman and she could read and write. She was also listed as the head of household and married twice.

On the 1910 Census she is listed as head of household at 305 E. West St.. She had twelve children by then with only five living. Her son David Raidy had married Martha and had 2 children living at the same address.

1916 Balto. City Directory has her living at 102 E Hamburg St., Balto., Md.

Sophie died Aug 16, 1919 and burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery downtown Balto. City. This cemetery was moved in the 1960s to Woodlawn Cemetery. We visited Woodlawn Cemetery Aug. 1999 and were told that that the entire cemetery was moved there but they do not know where any of the graves are. They did give me a copy of a file card as proof.
